Messy Church

Starting on the third Sunday in September, (September 16)
we will have “Messy Church” once a month.  Does it sound intriguing?  What is “Messy Church”?
Messy Church was started by the Church of England as an outreach ministry to all ages.  It is church — but it is not just designed for people who come on Sunday morning.  Here are 5 things to know about “Messy Church”.
Messy Church is INTERGENERATIONAL.  It is for children, for parents, for grandparents, for all ages to be together. It is CREATIVE. That doesn’t mean that it’s “sloppy” or “unkempt”, but it has smudged lines for creativity and experimentation. Different Messy Churches do it differently, but at Grace (right now) we are focusing our creativity on arts and crafts that will give hands-on lessons.  Messy Church is also CHRIST-CENTERED.  We are here to have fun, but we are also creating and nurturing a Christ-centered community where people learn about, and experience, the love of Jesus.  Messy Church is HOSPITALITY — there will be a meal every time we meet (4:00 p.m. –  5:45 p.m.) — and the purpose of the meal is to share, not just food but to share each other’s lives, and to get to know each other.  And finally, Messy Church is a CELEBRATION.  It will be a Messy Celebration, but we will always include some kind of simple and short worship, whether just candle lighting and prayer, or a song.
Mostly, Messy Church is an opportunity to learn about Jesus and to share Jesus.  We hope you check us out — and invite your friends, too.
